Bregenz Festival Cruises:
„Carmen“ on the floating stage

No one needs to travel this summer to experience a thrilling performance of “Carmen” in Spain. Bregenz will do nicely. Performances of musical theatre have been staged for over 70 years on the world’s biggest floating stage in Bregenz, on the shores of Lake Constance. In 2017, the programme features a performance of a 19th century masterpiece, “Carmen” by Georges Bizet. Although the French composer never set foot on Spanish territory, he managed to create the most Spanish of all operas. Astoundingly, Bizet conceived an extraordinarily captivating and multifaceted musical interpretation deeply rooted in local Andalusian influences. His congenial creations include the famous “Habanera”, the “Flower aria” as well as the fiery “Toreador” song, the impacts of which continue to be felt up to this day as popular tunes. Even the stern philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was so enthused by the work that he commented: “This music seems to reach the peak of perfection!”

Enjoy a cruise on the Hohentwiel steamship across Lake Constance before the performance and an exclusive introduction to “Carmen” by a connoisseur of opera. To accompany the event, we’ll be serving up an excellent 4-course festival meal with an aperitif and docking right at the lakeside landing stage especially for you. We recommend that you book early!

Show timetable

An impressive ship with a lot of style and lovingly restored. A great atmosphere to cruise on a paddle steamer towards the sunset. The crew, the captain, crew and the ship’s cook all delighted us in equal measure.
